Inclusion & Diversity in the Age of Digital Humanism (IDDH)
26-27 October 2024
Introduction
Thanks to artificial intelligence, machines have become capable of understanding, responding, and producing texts with similar power and accuracy to those produced by humans. Scholars, academics and scientific circles have recently become preoccupied with probing into the demarcation line and/or the common denominator between humans and machines. Due to the rapid technological advancement, especially in literature, language, and translation and other relevant fields, questions have arisen about the pros and cons of technology. The philosophy of "post-humanism" or "digital humanism” has gained primacy in research. Human reliance on technology in all fields of knowledge calls for more insightful discussion of the growing role of machines and their impact on the future of humanity. The new term "digital humanism" now encompasses many concepts and fields such as digital culture, electronic education systems, digital content, electronic translators, and other theoretical and practical aspects that revolve around the interconnectedness between human, non-human, and technology.
Research proposals on any of the following or related topics are most welcome:
- Popular culture, theatrical texts, television and film works that include posthuman themes, and in particular cyborgs, chimeras, human-animal hybrids, techno-dystopias, and so on.
- Literary criticism that deals with the phenomena of merging and the Anthropocene.
- The cognitive contexts: intellectual, cultural, and technological of posthumanism.
- The relationship between human-centered technologies and environment.
- New critical perspectives on creative works.
- Extinction, conservation and sustainability in literary works.
- Redefining human identity in the wake of technological and biological changes
- Ethical and moral questions: genetic modification, artificial intelligence, the integration of technology into the human body.
- Inclusivity: A comprehensive vision of humanity that recognizes diversity and a society that values all forms of life and ways of being.
- Critiquing human centrism and calling for greater consideration of non-human entities and the environment.
- Posthuman applications: technological transformation - enhancing physical and cognitive performance.
- Applications in the fields of applied linguistics, translation, and artificial intelligence (AI)
- Literature as an innovative and original expression of posthumanism
- Challenging traditional forms of representation and calling for new forms of interpretation.
- Translation and conceptual transformations.
- Translation and ethics: Interactions between humans, objects, and technology.
- Translation and technology
- Ethical engagement with the concept of translational agency.
- Creating a "new machine environment" for translation.
- Translation and violence.
